Design, supply and installation of Evaporative Cooling units to clean room.

November 2008.

We were involved at the early stage with the client who was installing a new clean room at their Cornwall site.
 
The process within the clean room produces a heat. This together with the staff being required to wear full clean room gowns would make the working conditions within the room unbearable.
 
Our remit was to provide sufficient cool air to ensure safe and comfortable working conditions for the occupants of the room.
 
Due to the large room volume and the additional heat source we calculated that one evaporative cooler would be required to run at half capacity. This would ensure the noise levels are at an acceptable for the majority of the time but also allows spare capacity within the system for the very hot days in the summer months.
 
Due to this being a clean room HEPA filters (99.999% effiency) was required on ALL supply air systems, so we installed additional filter bank on the downstream side of the cooling unit.
 
The additional resitance created by the HEPA filters meant the standard axial fan was not suitable and had to be replace with a centrifugal fan.
 
The system is controlled via basic on/off controls mounted within a stainless steel control panel located within the clean room.
 
Part of the project was also to cool the plant room serving the equipment operating in the clean room.
 
The plant room was located above the clean room (directly below the roof).
 
This was easily achieved using a standard down discharge cooling unit and roof mounted extract fan all automatically controlled via a thermostat / humidistat controller.
 
The unit shown (right) was ducted down through the roof via a galvanised steel duct and discharge into the plant room via a four way diffuser set 2,5m above the floor level.
